Rigid Foundation Insulation

Insulate Below. Save Above.

Cold ground, clay-heavy soils, and tightening energy codes have made rigid insulation a standard part of any foundation that is expected to perform. Skip it, and the structure pays twice: once on the heating bill, again on the comfort and durability of the space inside.

Without proper rigid insulation, the foundation becomes a heat sink.

  • Heat moves out of the structure through the slab and the walls into the ground around it.
  • Floors stay cold even with the heat running.
  • Condensation forms inside the wall assembly.
  • The HVAC system works overtime. And the project struggles to pass code on energy efficiency.

Under-Slab Insulation

Rigid foam panels (XPS or EPS) are essential for protecting your structure from energy loss, moisture, and long-term damage. Laid directly on the compacted gravel base, between the gravel and the concrete pour. Panels are cut and fitted around plumbing, electrical, and any in-floor radiant tubing. In both residential and commercial buildings, it helps you meet energy codes, reduce costs, and create more comfortable living or working spaces.

What you get

  • Cuts heat loss through the slab and lower your costs
  • Lets radiant in-floor heat operate at peak efficiency
  • Controls condensation between the slab and the ground
  • Hits IECC R-value requirements without bolt-on workarounds

Foundation Wall Insulation

Rigid foam goes on the inside or the outside of below-grade foundation walls, depending on the project and the build sequence.

Exterior wall insulation

Installed between the foundation wall and the backfill. Shields the wall from freeze-thaw cycles in the soil, runs continuous with no thermal breaks at framing, and protects the waterproofing membrane from backfill abrasion.

Interior wall insulation

Applied to basement or crawlspace walls before framing. Creates a warmer, drier interior, especially in finished basements. Cuts the risk of interior condensation and the mold that follows it.

Coordinated With the Rest of the Foundation Stack

We quote rigid insulation as a standalone, or as part of a complete foundation systems package alongside drainage and waterproofing. Get the energy code locked down before the slab gets poured and the framers show up.
