Playground Resurfacing

Fresh Surface. Safe Play. No Mess.

A playground surface takes a beating. Sun, foot traffic, weather, and years of play wear it down, thin it out, and eventually push it out of compliance with current safety standards. When that happens, you don’t always need to rebuild the whole playground. Ground Solutions resurfaces existing play areas for schools, parks, and municipalities, giving them a safe, fresh surface without the cost and disruption of a full reconstruction.

When It's Time to Resurface

A few signs tell you a play area is due. Engineered wood fiber that has compacted or broken down no longer cushions falls the way it should. Pea gravel migrates and thins out. Rubber and poured-in-place surfaces crack, fade, or wear through at the high-traffic spots. If the equipment is still sound but the surface has reached the end of its life, resurfacing is usually the smarter, more affordable path. We help you assess what the surface needs and whether a refresh or a fuller renovation makes more sense.

Our Resurfacing Process

We handle the full scope so the project moves cleanly from start to finish. That starts with removing and disposing of the existing surfacing material, whether that’s sand, pea gravel, rubber, or poured-in-place. From there we pour concrete curbing and install drainage systems, strip drains, wear mats, and filter fabric as the site requires. Then we top the area off with the surface of your choice, placed at the correct depth. If you’re going with poured-in-place, we bring in road base or structural fill to prep the base so your PIP contractor can step in and finish.

Surfacing Materials We Install

Ground Solutions most often installs engineered wood fiber (EWF) for school and park playgrounds. EWF is 100% virgin wood fiber, manufactured to meet current IPEMA safety standards for fall protection and accessibility, which makes it a surface every kid can use. We also install Safe Play, Fibar®, Child Safety Guard, and Playsoft™, along with pea gravel and rubber mulch. Not sure which surface fits your site and your budget? We’ll walk you through the options.

Why Resurface With Our Blower Trucks

The flexibility of our blower truck hoses is what sets the work apart. We place new material or top off existing material right around the play equipment without tearing up the surrounding landscape. The hose reaches over and around structures, laying material quickly and evenly at the proper depth. No heavy machines on the play area, no piles of material to clean up, just a clean, even surface that’s ready for kids the day we leave. Learn more about our blower truck service.
